A Call for Support from SAVH

A call for support from SAVH Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped !

“Keeping one arm’s length” apart is the new social rule for safe distancing in this COVID-19 outbreak season.

But what happens if you meet someone who is visually impaired and truly in need of help?

What are some ways by which we can still keep safe and extend help where it’s needed?

How do we continue to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable in society?

“Practising social distancing does not mean being socially isolated. It certainly does not mean leaving the disabled or vulnerable we see to fend for themselves. In other words, use your head. But don't forget to use some heart as well.“ William Wan, General Secretary of the Singapore Wellness Movement

Message from SAVH:

“Dear members of the public,

In these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 outbreak, SAVH is fully behind the Singapore Government in calling for social distancing to combat the spread of the virus.

However, let us remember that the visually impaired may still need our assistance from time to time, and sometimes, for example, if they need help to be led to the right place, some physical contact is necessary.

Please see our public education YouTube video on how to guide the visually impaired.

The good news is, MOH's guidelines do allow for physical contact when necessary.

Do remember to practise good personal hygiene such as effective washing after contact, do not touch your face etc.

Let's keep the kindness in our hearts to one another! SG United!

From SAVH team”
