Pek Kio / Kentville is an area with many elderly residents served by me and MOS Alvin Tan, depending on which side of Owen Road one lives.

We've just announced the opening of the new upgraded Pek Kio Market and the Pek Kio Park for residents this month.

Both Alvin and I are mighty pleased that LTA took our inputs to include Pek Kio in their FRIENDLY STREETS initiative in 2025.

I was glad to join Senior MOS Amy Khor and my fellow grassroots advisors in announcing the locations of 10 new Friendly Streets sites islandwide. They are residential areas with high pedestrian activity and close to key amenities such as markets, hawker centres, community clubs, schools, and MRT stations - with a higher proportion of seniors or young families.

These Friendly Streets are designed to make walking and cycling commutes within neighbourhood centres easier and safer, especially for seniors and young children. The rest of Singapore will enjoy this initiative in the next few years.

At Pek Kio, many pedestrians cross Cambridge Road and Owen Road to reach Pek Kio Market. To make it safer for residents to cross the roads, we will be implementing a raised signalised pedestrian crossing on Owen Road, raised zebra crossings, kerbless crossings, slow down warnings and centre dividers.

This is part of A Better Life we try to work towards for our beloved folks with the agencies. Thank you LTA!
