Labour Day 2020
Each Labour Day for years, my grassroots volunteers from the 9 RCs and I will personally show our appreciation to all our estate Town Council cleaners through gift vouchers and makan. Due to the circuit breaker, we will do this once the it is over - so that's akandatang.
But I couldn’t let 1st May 2020 pass by with nothing - not after I saw how some of our cleaners walked the extra mile, took on extra work, disinfecting the blocks and facilities suspected of COVID-19 and quarantine cases.
So we did a meet-up - and with safe distancing measures (no MP bashing please). I thanked them with some vouchers plus a sponsored shopping spree at our heartland provision shops. Yes, they picked the usual soap, toilet paper, rice (ponni rice though), Panadol, detergent and the like - the staples we would have picked for our homes too.
Residents of Kampong Glam, a couple of you have written to me to ask if our cleaners might be at higher risk of being COVID-19 carriers. I think the chance is as good as ours as most of them live amongst us, with strict HDB rules on how many can live under one roof. So, no worries there.
But many more of you have written to me too to express your appreciation of our estate cleaners.
Please do tell them yourselves when you see them too - make their day!
