PASSION FOR Disability
I am an active volunteer in the Disability sector. I learnt about the many challenges faced by this special-needs community, from raising my own autistic son and interacting with so many in the community. In trying to contribute, these are my key involvements in the last 20 years:
One of key architects of Singapore’s 3 five-year Enabling MasterPlan for the Disabled
Co-chairman of Workgroup for Jobs in the Future for Persons with Disabilities
Founder and Advisor to The Purple Parade, Singapore’s largest annual gathering of the special needs community and supporters
Founder and Advisor to The Purple Symphony, Singapore’s largest inclusive orchestra comprising more than 100 musicians with and without special needs
President of Autism Resource Centre, the largest autism charity in Singapore
Board Member, Chairman of Services and Programmes Committee of Autism Association Singapore.
Co-founded Pathlight School in 2004 for students with autism taking the national mainstream PSLE and GCE route. Volunteer School Supervisor since 2004
Revamped Eden School for students with autism taking vocational route. Volunteer School Supervisor since 2008
Led in the development and transformation of services for adults with autism – Employability and Employment Centre (ARC) and Eden Centre for Adults
Helped successfully set up Singapore’s first Autism Network Singapore uniting key social service agencies supporting this community
Leading and co-ordinating a mini autism enabling masterplan to identify gaps and prioritise actions to better the life outcomes of the autism community
