Launch of $130 million CDC Vouchers Scheme

WooHoo! CDC $100-VOUCHERS SCHEME LAUNCHED TO BENEFIT RESIDENTS AND PARTICIPATING HEARTLAND MERCHANTS

PM Lee Hsien Loong launched the $130 million CDC Vouchers Scheme yesterday.

This was a scheme announced at Budget 2021 this year by DPM Heng Swee Keat to (1) thank Singaporeans for journeying through COVID together; (2) support Heartland SME merchants.

Each Singaporean HOUSEHOLD (not individual) will get digital vouchers of $100 to use in the heartlands. Can be shared amongst the family.

Anyone , say a senior, who does not have a smartphone or SingPass etc, can go to the nearest CC to get help; even get vouchers printed if really needed.

The whole project was a labour of love by many agencies - for many reasons. We needed a final solution that will address the wide range of residents and merchants (digital? paper? pros and cons and cost? cater to varying digital savviness of users and merchants ? secure ? etc). And then to test it out in real settings before a large scale nationwide implementation.

Close to 10,000 Heartland merchants participated at launch time. Hopefully, more will sign up so more residents can enjoy supporting their businesses. Digital and CDC ambassadors; volunteers; grassroots advisors - many went out in full swing in the last few months to share the scheme.

The Scheme is not perfect, but it will get better if we all chip in and help one other. The RedeemSG application, developed with GovTech, is as user-friendly and safe as we can get it to be for now.
