Jalan Besar GRC Citizenship Ceremony 2021

This year’s citizenship ceremony for new citizens, like other community events, is similarly affected by COVID-19.

No long ceremonies, speeches or singing of anthem. But the significance is no less.

Many recipients had been living and contributing to Singapore for years. I personally know some of them and can vouch for their characters and their active volunteerism.

Though I’m born and bred in Singapore, my parents were themselves migrants from Malaysia. My grandparents were from China.

I’m mighty thankful they chose Singapore. Singapore has transformed their lives and they and their descendants, too, have shaped Singapore.

To those who officially become members of our Singapore family today, welcome! We’ve always been a country that punches above its weight. Help to continue to make our beloved Singapore great.
