Parliamentary Question: On Special-Needs Children Suspected of Offences
I asked a Parliamentary Question (PQ) at the last Sitting on behalf of families who had approached me for help with their special-needs children suspected of offences.
“Ms Denise Phua Lay Peng: To ask the Minister for Law (a) what are the factors taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to press charges against persons with disabilities, especially those with less than full mental capacity; and (b) whether the Ministry is able to share on any past case studies to illustrate the above.“
The video captures the reassuring replies from SPS Rahayu and my further question. There will be another PQ that I will pose next round to Ministry of Home Affairs on a related topic.
To all caregivers and families of persons with less than full mental capacity, fear not - the national criminal justice system is building its capability in this space.
