From trash to treasure!

Reducing waste through CDC’s sustainability workshops.

Did you know that Singapore’s only landfill, Semakau Landfill, receives more than 2,000 tonnes of waste daily?

At the current rate of waste growth, the landfill will run out of space by 2035. Time for us all to take active steps to reduce waste.

Sustainability Workshops are 1 of 52 programmes by Central Singapore CDC. Held across our 23 divisions in Central Singapore, residents learn to upcycle common household materials and waste into usable products!

From January to May 2023, we conducted more than 30 workshops, with nearly 500 residents taking part!

Last weekend, participants from Cheng San- Seletar Division brought home coin pouches and saving banks made from beverage cartons and plastic bottles. At Kampong Glam, participants learn to convert unwanted fabric clothes and plastic bottles to drawstring bags & plastic bottle stationery cases.

The workshops are an initiative under our CDC to encourage a zero-waste lifestyle among residents through key environmental values - 6Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose and Recycle.

Sign up for our workshops to do your part! My CDC team and I are organising other upcoming workshops in June and July.
