Annual Principals’ Appointment & Appreciation Ceremony
A special day for me and my tribe. As part of the Education Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC), I get to attend the Annual Principals’ Appointment & Appreciation Ceremony.
Separately, I also supervise special schools like Pathlight, in my volunteer capacity.
This year, special school principals are included in the hitherto ‘mainstream’ ceremony, thanks to the decision of Minister Chan Chun Sing.
Principals of special schools are appointed based on a 2-key approval system - mutually agreed by MOE (mainstream education experts) and the operating disability charity (disability experts with a lifelong support perspective).
It’s never easy to find both competent and compassionate leaders and staff to join the special education sector (all are therefore precious!!) - but that’s a story to be shared another time.
Today, I’m so pleased to be at the special event; huddled with my SPED tribe; met and took photos with mainstream principals like Lucy Toh, Frederick Yeo and Kevin Pang et al who had been so helpful.
Education Minister CCS never fails to inspire - today, one of the nuggets I caught is his challenge, “are you part of the problem or part of the solution?”
